CHELSEA VS LIVERPOOL = over 1.5

  • Chelsea are without a win at home against top-six teams this season.
  • Chelsea have conceded two or more in three of their last four home matches (all competitions).
  • Liverpool are unbeaten away against those who currently reside in the top six.

Blues lack consistency

Chelsea were unable to follow up what was a pleasing performance against Tottenham last time out, as they drew 2-2 away at Bournemouth, relying on a late goal to avoid defeat. Consistency is the main reason why Frank Lampard’s men have not yet wrapped up a top-four position. The Blues haven’t won back-to-back games since November and have only won five of their last 16 in the league.
Such form doesn’t exactly bode well ahead of a match against the league leaders; though they may just be playing Liverpool, who’ve slacked off recently, at the right time.
In years gone by, Chelsea would fancy themselves against any team at Stamford Bridge, though their home ground has become much less of a fortress in recent times. Lampard’s men have won just two of their last six at home, while they’re winless in three against teams that currently reside in the top six, two of which they’ve lost. Manchester United recently made light work of winning at this venue, while Bayern Munich were far too good for the Blues when winning here by three goals to nil last week.

Liverpool look to recover

The soon-to-be Premier League champions just about recovered from their Champions League defeat to Atletico, as they stuttered to a 3-2 win over West Ham, though that result didn’t spark improvement. Jurgen Klopp’s men finally tasted defeat in the league last time out, losing by three goals to nil against Watford.
The Reds haven’t looked as strong in recent weeks, so it will be interesting to see how they fare off the back of such a disappointing display.
While Chelsea have faltered at home against the better teams, Liverpool have impressed when facing those who currently reside in the top six on the road. They’re unbeaten in four matches against such opposition, three of which they’ve won. In those four fixtures, Klopp’s men have conceded just two goals.

Visitors too big in the betting

Liverpool haven’t been at their best over the last couple of weeks, but it appears the early market has overreacted to their defeat last time out. At current prices, backing the visitors to bounce back appeals. Liverpool have been excellent domestically for most of the campaign, while they’ve been especially effective on the road in games such as this.
The same cannot be said for Chelsea, who’re without a win at home against top-six teams. The visitors also come out on top in all areas, such as shots for, shots against, shots on target for, shots on target against, touches in the opposition box and chances created, so the current price on offer looks a generous one.
