FAMALICAO VS BENFICA  = OVER 2.5

REASONS FOR THE PREDICTION.
  • When the pair met in the first leg, Famalicao matched Benfica in term of shots.
  • Benfica have scored in 100% of their domestic away matches this season.
  • Famalicao have scored in ten of their 13 domestic home matches during the current campaign.

Hosts not out of if yet

Prior to the first leg, it was easy to see Famalicao, whose previous efforts against the likes of Benfica and Porto weren’t great, floundering, though the Primeira Liga new boys surprised many and outplayed their price-tag. Not only did Tuesday’s hosts score twice at Estádio da Luz, but they came within a whisker of leaving the pitch all-square. Benfica only emerged victorious, winning by three goals to two, thanks to a 95th minute goal.
After that encouraging showing, Famalicao will fancy themselves to compete against Benfica on their own patch, which is where they’ve done most of their best work this season. João Pedro Sousa’s men have won five of their ten home matches in the Primeira Liga this season, scoring at least once in eight of those ten. However, their defensive record of just two clean sheets doesn’t bode well, nor does the fact that they’re yet to face a big team (Porto, Benfica, Sporting) at home.
What will encourage the hosts is the fact that they managed to offer a real threat in the reverse fixture. They hurt Benfica on the break and will surely fancy themselves do so again. Though, can they do enough at the back?

Visitors look to do better

Earning an advantage ahead of the second leg is exactly what Benfica wanted, though Bruno Lage’s men would’ve been hoping to secure a less slender advantage. As things stand, this tie is far from wrapped up.
Though Benfica did fall behind a week ago and though it took them until virtually the last kick of the game to get their noses in front, it’s fair to say that they were the better team. They dictated the tempo for the most part and were the team that created more in the way of scoring opportunities, which should leave them feeling confident ahead of Tuesday’s clash. That said, the visitors may be slightly worried about defensively shake they looked at time during the first leg.

Goals for both on the cards once more

After what we saw from this pair last week, ‘Over 2.5 Goals & Both Teams to Score’ stands out as a viable option. The hosts may not have the defensive nous to hold off a side of Benfica’s quality, as seven goals against in two games suggest, but they went a long way to proving that they’re good enough to compete offensively last week. Having shared five goals just a week ago, the pair are backed to produce no shortage of net rippling once again. The fact that three or more goals have been scored in seven of Famalicao’s home games this term fuels the selection further.
